Before seeking office, Zohran worked as a foreclosure prevention housing counselor in Queens. Subsequently, in 2020, he ran a successful grassroots campaign and won election to the New York State Assembly for District 36 (Astoria, Queens). This was a significant achievement, as he was the first South Asian man ever to serve in the state legislature.
